Cylinder 4 Injector Circuit Low
Code P0270 indicates that the fuel injector circuit for cylinder 4 is operating at lower than normal voltage or current. This causes improper fuel spray pattern and an overly lean mixture in that cylinder, triggering the check engine light and degrading engine performance and fuel economy.
What You Might Notice
- Check engine light illuminated
- Engine running rough or misfiring
- Loss of engine power
- Significant decrease in fuel economy
- Difficulty starting or unstable idle
Most Common Causes
- 1
Dirty or clogged fuel injector
Carbon buildup or fuel varnish can restrict the injector nozzle, reducing fuel spray pattern and causing the circuit to draw abnormal current levels.
- 2
Faulty fuel injector
Internal electrical failure or mechanical damage to the injector can prevent proper opening or closing, resulting in low circuit voltage.
- 3
Damaged wiring or connector
Corroded, loose, or damaged wiring connections to the cylinder 4 injector can cause high resistance and reduced circuit voltage.
- 4
PCM or fuel injector driver failure
A faulty powertrain control module or fuel injector driver circuit can fail to supply adequate voltage to the injector circuit.
How to Diagnose It
- 1
Check Dirty or clogged fuel injector — Carbon buildup or fuel varnish can restrict the injector nozzle, reducing fuel spray pattern and causing the circuit to draw abnormal current levels.
- 2
Check Faulty fuel injector — Internal electrical failure or mechanical damage to the injector can prevent proper opening or closing, resulting in low circuit voltage.
- 3
Check Damaged wiring or connector — Corroded, loose, or damaged wiring connections to the cylinder 4 injector can cause high resistance and reduced circuit voltage.
- 4
Check PCM or fuel injector driver failure — A faulty powertrain control module or fuel injector driver circuit can fail to supply adequate voltage to the injector circuit.
How to Fix It
- 1
Clean fuel injector
Remove and professionally clean or ultrasonic clean the cylinder 4 fuel injector to remove carbon deposits and restore proper spray pattern.
- 2
Replace fuel injector
If cleaning does not resolve the code, remove the faulty injector and install a new or remanufactured fuel injector for cylinder 4.
- 3
Inspect and repair wiring
Check the injector wiring harness and connectors for corrosion, looseness, or damage. Clean connections and repair or replace damaged wiring as needed.
- 4
Test and replace PCM if needed
If injector and wiring are confirmed good, have the PCM tested with diagnostic equipment. Replace the PCM if the fuel injector driver circuit is faulty.
