Cylinder 6 Injector Circuit Low
P0276 indicates the fuel injector for cylinder 6 is not delivering adequate fuel spray pattern or volume. This causes a lean mixture in that cylinder, triggering the oxygen sensor to signal the PCM, which then richens all cylinders to compensate, resulting in poor fuel economy and rough idle.
What You Might Notice
- Check engine light illuminated
- Rough idle and engine misfire
- Significant loss of engine power
- Dramatic drop in fuel economy
- Engine hesitation during acceleration
Most Common Causes
- 1
Dirty or clogged fuel injector
Carbon buildup on the injector nozzle reduces spray pattern and fuel delivery to cylinder 6. Fuel contamination or poor maintenance can accelerate this condition.
- 2
Faulty fuel injector
The injector solenoid may be failing, preventing proper valve opening or closing, resulting in insufficient fuel delivery to cylinder 6.
- 3
Fuel injector wiring or connector issue
Broken wires, corroded connectors, or loose connections at the cylinder 6 injector prevent proper electrical signal from reaching the injector.
- 4
Fuel supply problem
Low fuel pressure, clogged fuel filter, or faulty fuel pump can restrict fuel delivery to all injectors including cylinder 6, though this typically affects multiple cylinders.
How to Diagnose It
- 1
Check Dirty or clogged fuel injector — Carbon buildup on the injector nozzle reduces spray pattern and fuel delivery to cylinder 6. Fuel contamination or poor maintenance can accelerate this condition.
- 2
Check Faulty fuel injector — The injector solenoid may be failing, preventing proper valve opening or closing, resulting in insufficient fuel delivery to cylinder 6.
- 3
Check Fuel injector wiring or connector issue — Broken wires, corroded connectors, or loose connections at the cylinder 6 injector prevent proper electrical signal from reaching the injector.
- 4
Check Fuel supply problem — Low fuel pressure, clogged fuel filter, or faulty fuel pump can restrict fuel delivery to all injectors including cylinder 6, though this typically affects multiple cylinders.
How to Fix It
- 1
Clean or replace fuel injector
Remove and inspect the cylinder 6 fuel injector. If heavily carbonized, attempt ultrasonic cleaning. If cleaning fails or injector is damaged, replace with a new or remanufactured injector.
- 2
Inspect and repair fuel injector connector
Check the electrical connector at cylinder 6 injector for corrosion, loose pins, or damaged wiring. Clean connector contacts with electrical contact cleaner or replace connector and repair wiring as needed.
- 3
Verify fuel pressure and filter
Use a fuel pressure gauge to confirm adequate pressure (typically 35-45 PSI for port injection). If pressure is low, inspect and replace the fuel filter and test the fuel pump.
- 4
Clear code and perform test drive
After repairs, use a diagnostic scanner to clear the P0276 code. Perform a test drive to confirm the rough running condition is resolved and fuel economy improves.
