Cylinder 8 Injector Circuit Low
P0282 indicates that the fuel injector circuit for cylinder 8 is detecting a low voltage or resistance condition. This causes improper fuel spray pattern to that cylinder, resulting in a lean fuel mixture that triggers the check engine light and affects engine performance.
What You Might Notice
- Check engine light illuminated
- Rough idle or uneven engine running
- Loss of engine power and acceleration
- Significant decrease in fuel economy
- Possible misfiring in cylinder 8
Most Common Causes
- 1
Dirty or clogged fuel injector
Carbon buildup inside the cylinder 8 fuel injector restricts fuel flow and creates an abnormal spray pattern, causing the PCM to detect low circuit voltage.
- 2
Faulty fuel injector
The injector for cylinder 8 has failed internally or has high resistance, preventing proper electrical signal and fuel delivery to that cylinder.
- 3
Wiring or connector issues
Corroded, damaged, or loose wiring and connectors in the cylinder 8 fuel injector circuit cause poor electrical connection and low voltage signals.
- 4
Engine control module (PCM) malfunction
A faulty PCM may incorrectly detect or report a low voltage condition in the cylinder 8 injector circuit when the circuit is actually functioning properly.
How to Diagnose It
- 1
Check Dirty or clogged fuel injector — Carbon buildup inside the cylinder 8 fuel injector restricts fuel flow and creates an abnormal spray pattern, causing the PCM to detect low circuit voltage.
- 2
Check Faulty fuel injector — The injector for cylinder 8 has failed internally or has high resistance, preventing proper electrical signal and fuel delivery to that cylinder.
- 3
Check Wiring or connector issues — Corroded, damaged, or loose wiring and connectors in the cylinder 8 fuel injector circuit cause poor electrical connection and low voltage signals.
- 4
Check Engine control module (PCM) malfunction — A faulty PCM may incorrectly detect or report a low voltage condition in the cylinder 8 injector circuit when the circuit is actually functioning properly.
How to Fix It
- 1
Clean fuel injector
Remove and clean the cylinder 8 fuel injector using ultrasonic cleaning equipment or fuel injector cleaner to remove carbon deposits and restore proper spray pattern.
- 2
Replace faulty fuel injector
Remove the cylinder 8 fuel injector and install a new OEM or quality replacement injector to restore proper fuel delivery and electrical circuit function.
- 3
Repair wiring and connectors
Inspect the cylinder 8 fuel injector wiring harness and connector for corrosion, damage, or loose connections. Repair or replace damaged wiring and reseat connectors as needed.
- 4
Test and reprogram PCM
Use diagnostic equipment to test the PCM output signals to the cylinder 8 injector circuit. If defective, reprogram or replace the PCM if necessary.
