Unable To Engage Gear 5

The transmission is unable to engage fifth gear in a multi-speed transmission, caused by mechanical or electrical failure of fifth gear engagement components. The transmission will not shift into fifth gear or will drop out of it. On highway driving, the engine will run at higher RPM and fuel economy will suffer.
