Pressure Control Solenoid "A" Control Circuit Low
P0962 indicates the transmission pressure control solenoid A circuit is detecting low voltage or an open circuit condition. The PCM has identified insufficient electrical signal to properly control transmission hydraulic pressure, which can trigger limp mode and degrade transmission performance.
What You Might Notice
- Check Engine Light illuminated
- Transmission slips during acceleration or shifting
- Hard shifting or banging into gear
- Transmission overheating
- Increased fuel consumption
Most Common Causes
- 1
Faulty pressure control solenoid
The solenoid itself may be stuck, damaged, or electrically failed, preventing proper hydraulic pressure control.
- 2
Wiring or connector issues
Corroded, loose, or damaged wiring and connectors to the solenoid can create open circuits or poor electrical contact.
- 3
Low transmission fluid
Insufficient fluid level reduces pressure and can cause sensor and solenoid faults if the pickup screen is exposed.
- 4
PCM or transmission control module failure
A defective control module may incorrectly sense solenoid voltage or fail to drive the solenoid properly.
How to Diagnose It
- 1
Check Faulty pressure control solenoid — The solenoid itself may be stuck, damaged, or electrically failed, preventing proper hydraulic pressure control.
- 2
Check Wiring or connector issues — Corroded, loose, or damaged wiring and connectors to the solenoid can create open circuits or poor electrical contact.
- 3
Check Low transmission fluid — Insufficient fluid level reduces pressure and can cause sensor and solenoid faults if the pickup screen is exposed.
- 4
Check PCM or transmission control module failure — A defective control module may incorrectly sense solenoid voltage or fail to drive the solenoid properly.
How to Fix It
- 1
Check and top up transmission fluid
Verify transmission fluid level using the dipstick or electronic level sensor. Top up with manufacturer-approved fluid if low, as inadequate pressure is the primary symptom.
- 2
Inspect solenoid wiring and connectors
Remove and inspect the pressure control solenoid A connector and wiring harness for corrosion, looseness, or damage. Clean contacts and repair or replace damaged wiring as needed.
- 3
Replace pressure control solenoid A
If wiring and fluid are good, the solenoid is likely faulty. Remove and install a new OEM or quality replacement solenoid designed for your vehicle's transmission.
- 4
Diagnose transmission control module
If solenoid replacement does not clear the code, test the transmission control module for electrical faults using a scanner. Module reprogramming or replacement may be required.
