Secondary Air Injection System Air Flow/Pressure Sensor Circuit Bank 1
P2430 indicates the engine control module detected a problem with the secondary air injection system's air flow or pressure sensor circuit on Bank 1. This system reduces emissions during cold start and warm-up by injecting fresh air into the exhaust manifold. The fault prevents proper system operation and will increase harmful emissions.
What You Might Notice
- Check engine light illuminated
- Engine stalling at idle
- Difficulty starting the engine
- Poor engine performance or rough idle
- Unusual noise from secondary air injection pump
Most Common Causes
- 1
Defective air pressure sensor
The sensor monitoring air flow or pressure in the secondary air injection system has failed or is out of range. This is the most common cause for P2430.
- 2
Faulty secondary air injection pump
The electric pump that forces air into the exhaust system is not operating correctly or has completely failed.
- 3
Defective air control solenoid valve
The solenoid valve controlling air flow into the secondary air injection system is stuck, damaged, or electrically failed.
- 4
Wiring or connector issues
Corroded, loose, or damaged wiring harnesses and connectors in the secondary air injection circuit prevent proper signal transmission to the PCM.
How to Diagnose It
- 1
Check Defective air pressure sensor — The sensor monitoring air flow or pressure in the secondary air injection system has failed or is out of range. This is the most common cause for P2430.
- 2
Check Faulty secondary air injection pump — The electric pump that forces air into the exhaust system is not operating correctly or has completely failed.
- 3
Check Defective air control solenoid valve — The solenoid valve controlling air flow into the secondary air injection system is stuck, damaged, or electrically failed.
- 4
Check Wiring or connector issues — Corroded, loose, or damaged wiring harnesses and connectors in the secondary air injection circuit prevent proper signal transmission to the PCM.
How to Fix It
- 1
Replace air pressure sensor
Locate the secondary air injection air pressure sensor on Bank 1, disconnect the electrical connector, and replace with a new OEM or quality aftermarket sensor. Reconnect and clear the code.
- 2
Inspect and repair wiring and connectors
Visually inspect all secondary air injection system wiring harnesses and connectors for corrosion, damage, or loose connections. Clean, repair, or replace as needed. Ensure all connections are tight and properly seated.
- 3
Replace secondary air injection pump
If the pump is faulty, remove the old pump assembly, disconnect its electrical connector, and install a replacement pump. Verify proper air flow after installation.
- 4
Replace air control solenoid valve
Remove the defective solenoid valve from the air injection control assembly, disconnect its electrical connector, and install a new solenoid valve. Test system operation after replacement.
