Secondary Air Injection System Air Flow/Pressure Sensor Circuit Bank 2
Code P2435 indicates the secondary air injection system's air flow or pressure sensor circuit has detected a fault on Bank 2 of the engine. The secondary air injection system injects air into the exhaust during cold starts to reduce emissions, and when the sensor circuit malfunctions, the PCM cannot properly monitor or control this system.
What You Might Notice
- Check engine light illuminated
- Engine may stall at idle or during cold starts
- Engine may have difficulty starting
- Secondary air injection pump making noise or grinding sound
- Poor engine performance or hesitation during acceleration
Most Common Causes
- 1
Faulty air pressure sensor
The secondary air injection pressure sensor on Bank 2 may be defective or out of range, preventing accurate pressure readings to the PCM.
- 2
Defective secondary air injection pump
The electric pump that forces air into the exhaust may have failed or is operating intermittently, causing system pressure issues.
- 3
Faulty wiring or connectors
Corroded, damaged, or loose wires and connectors in the sensor circuit can interrupt signal transmission to the PCM.
- 4
Defective check valve or control solenoid
The one-way check valve or air control solenoid valve may be stuck, leaking, or not responding properly to PCM commands.
How to Diagnose It
- 1
Check Faulty air pressure sensor — The secondary air injection pressure sensor on Bank 2 may be defective or out of range, preventing accurate pressure readings to the PCM.
- 2
Check Defective secondary air injection pump — The electric pump that forces air into the exhaust may have failed or is operating intermittently, causing system pressure issues.
- 3
Check Faulty wiring or connectors — Corroded, damaged, or loose wires and connectors in the sensor circuit can interrupt signal transmission to the PCM.
- 4
Check Defective check valve or control solenoid — The one-way check valve or air control solenoid valve may be stuck, leaking, or not responding properly to PCM commands.
How to Fix It
- 1
Inspect and test sensor circuits
Use a multimeter to check voltage and resistance on the air pressure sensor wiring harness. Test the sensor output against manufacturer specifications and replace if out of range.
- 2
Check and clean connectors
Inspect all connectors related to the secondary air injection system on Bank 2 for corrosion, looseness, or damage. Clean terminals with electrical cleaner and ensure secure connections.
- 3
Replace secondary air injection pump
If the pump is not operating or producing proper pressure, remove and replace the electric secondary air injection pump assembly.
- 4
Replace check valve or solenoid
If the one-way check valve or air control solenoid valve is found to be defective during testing, remove and install a new valve assembly.
